CONCERT - Friday, March 2

The Eastern Kentucky University Choirs will present their spring concert on Friday, March 2 at 7:30 PM at First Christian Church in Richmond. The EKU Chamber Singers will perform Morten Lauridsen’s “Mid-Winter Songs” under the direction of Dr. Richard Waters, Director of Choral Activities. Graduate student Michael Welch will present his master’s conducting recital with the EKU Concert Choir and University Singers, featuring music by Dan Forrest, Michael Haydn, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Michael Welch, and Eric Whitacre. The EKU Choirs will be joined by the High Point University Chamber Singers (High Point, NC) under the direction of Dr. Marc Ashley Foster. The concert is free and open to the public.

Spring Choir Concert: I DREAM A WORLD

What do you dream? Our spring concert, I DREAM A WORLD, will explore the theme of dreams, from the childlike and whimsical to the heartfelt, mystical, and hopeful. Each choir will present a different setting of the popular Langston Hughes poem, and will feature music by David Brunner, Rollo Dilworth, Charles Ives, Susan LaBarr, Eric Whitacre, and more.

Please join us at the EKU Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Ireland Tour Preview Concert

The EKU Concert Choir is preparing for a week-long tour of Ireland, May 18-25, with performances in Killarney, Kilkenny, and Dublin. The choir will give a preview of their Ireland concert program on Sunday, April 26 at 5:00 pm at the EKU Center for the Arts. Admission is free.

Brahms "Requiem" -- April 24

The EKU Choirs will present Johannes Brahms' "Requiem" on Thursday, April 24 at First Baptist Church in Richmond. We are performing the "London version" with piano duet accompaniment (featuring EKU piano faculty Richard Crosby and Bernardo Scarambone), sung in English. We hope to see you there!

Madison Singers concert Monday night

Richmond's community choir, Madison Singers (which I direct) will present a concert on Monday, March 25 at 7:00 pm at First United Methodist Church. The theme of the concert is "How Can I Keep From Singing: American Songs of Life's Journey." The program is divided into three distinct sections: Faith, Despair, and Hope, featuring music by Randall Thompson, Mack Wilberg, Alice Parker/Robert Shaw, William Billings, Craig Hella Johnson, Dan Forrest, Bradley Ellingboe, and Howard Helvey. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door. I hope to see you there!

All EKU choir alumni are cordially invited to return to The Campus Beautiful for a reunion April 27-28, 2013. Please join us for a weekend of social events, rehearsals, and a performance with former Director of Choral Activities Dr. David Greenlee and current Director of Choral Activities Dr. Richard Waters.

2012-2013 announcement

The EKU Choirs have an exciting and busy season planned for 2012-2013. Among the highlights: a two-day guest residency with conductor, composer, and pianist Jeffery Ames, a performance with the Lexington Philharmonic, a University Singers reunion, AND

The EKU University Singers will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Monday, April 8, 2013.

Patriotic concert

The Madison Singers and Madison Community Band will present a concert of patriotic music on Tuesday, July 3 at 7:00 pm at the EKU Ravine.

Any singers that are interested in participating are invited to two rehearsals on Monday, June 18 and Monday July 2 from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Richmond Area Arts Council Building, near the corner of Lancaster and Main. (Click here for map.)
