The week in review; the week ahead
Last week was a good one for the EKU Choirs.
U.Singers completed a very successful tour, with 7 performances in 2 days, including a well received evening program at First Baptist, Somerset. We made contact with many prospective students for our program, and I believe we served as good ambassadors for the university.
Concert Choir contributed to the William Grant Still lecture/recital on Friday evening with a moving performance of "Here's One," complete with a whispered "Wow" from the composer's daughter at the final cutoff. Thanks to J Young for conducting on approximately 12 hours' notice. I was mighty proud as I listened to you from the audience.
And now, we move into high gear for our March program of music for choir and percussion.
PLEASE NOTE THAT BOTH CONCERT CHOIR AND UNIVERSITY SINGERS WILL BEGIN IN SECTIONALS ON MONDAY:
Sopranos in the choral office
Altos in the choir room
Tenors/Basses in Foster 212
REPERTOIRE FOR 2/20:
CC
Missa Luba Gloria (new)
Missa Luba Kyrie (review)
US
St. Francis Kyrie (new)
I Will Arise (new; you don't have it yet)

Here is a video of composer Ola Gjeilo discussing his collaboration with the Phoenix Chorale, which will release a recording of Gjeilo's choral music later this month. Mr. Gjeilo will visit EKU in October 2013 for a concert of his music, including the world premiere of a brand new piece composed for the EKU Choirs.
